About Shabondama

Shabondama Soap Co., Ltd. is a pioneering Japanese brand dedicated to creating additive-free, eco-friendly, and skin-safe soaps since 1949. Our mission is simple: to bring health and sustainability back into everyday cleaning products — starting with the humble bar of soap.

At Shabondama, we believe that a soap should do more than clean. It should protect your skin, support your health, and leave no harm to the environment. That’s why every Shabondama product is free from synthetic surfactants, fragrances, preservatives, and colorants — making it ideal for sensitive skin, infants, and anyone who cares about what touches their body.

What Makes Our Soaps Unique

At Shabondama, our soaps are manufactured using the traditional Kettle Saponification Process, which takes around a week to complete. This involves maturing the raw soap with utmost care and attention.

The Kettle Saponification Process (also known as Batch Saponification) uses steam to heat high-grade natural oils and fats along with alkali (lye). Through this natural reaction, soap is produced. The quality of the soap is deeply tied to the quality of the reaction that occurs, and this is the key to good soap making.

Our Kamadaki Shokunin (soap artisans), masters of this traditional process, use all five
senses to carefully monitor* the mixture, detecting even the subtlest changes throughout
the manufacturing process. (*Bar and powdered soaps only)
• Bar and powdered soaps: approx. 1 week to 10 days
• Liquid soaps: approx. 1 week

As a result, our soaps retain glycerin, a naturally occurring by-product, which provides
gentle moisturizing properties.
